A SOCIAL club described as a “friendly community hub” is celebrating this week after securing its long-term future.
Amersham Polish Club has taken over as owner of its premises in Raans Road after agreeing to buy the property's freehold from the county council.
Club chairman Richard Tramp said he was pleased the deal had been agreed.
He said: “The club’s commitment to serving the area to the best of our ability will obviously be strengthened by the purchase of the freehold to the land.
“It makes good sense for all parties to secure the long-term future of the club, particularly as we have a consecrated war memorial that should be preserved in perpetuity as a tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice so that all of us could enjoy a better world.”
The White Eagle Hall, where the club is based, was established in the early 1980s as a way of honouring the huge contribution Polish servicemen made to the Allied effort during the Second World War.
Until now the club has leased the building from Buckinghamshire County Council. It had a lease to last for the next 30 years, but members have decided to buy the freehold to the land instead.
Mr Tramp said he hoped the transaction would be completed “as soon as possible”.
He said: “The club is also a thriving and friendly community hub for all nationalities in the Chiltern district and further afield.
“We are strongly committed to raising funds for local charities and to helping the local community in whatever way we can.”
Among the charities the club has supported recently are the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, Scannappeal, The Hospice of St Francis and MacMillan Cancer Support.
